As expected, the news cycle is being dominated by politics, but it doesn’t seem to be having a lot of effect on the markets – so far. Stocks opened in positive territory and fought to hold onto the gains for the bulk of the trading session. There are still earnings reports to digest (We’ll get Disney today), but other than the reporting company itself, the rest of the stock market seems to ebb and flow with White House headlines.
As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 37 points to finish the day at 20,090. The S&P 500 was up a fraction to close at 2,293. Gold was up $3 to trade at $1,235 per ounce, while oil was down $.82 to trade at $52.19 per barrel WTI.
As mentioned, the economic calendar is light this week, so we’ll keep an eye on corporate earnings. Yes, the President is the main market mover right now, but when valuing a stock or a market for that matter, earnings do matter. Stay with us.
Have a nice evening everyone.
