Stocks Rise As Votes Are Cast

Nov 8, 2016 | Market Commentary

Friends

It’s almost over. People are voting, the results will start being counted shortly and we should have a new president elect tomorrow morning. In the meantime stocks began the day somewhat quietly but by midday the Dow was sporting a 150 point gain. As the afternoon wore on, the market averages gave up some of those gains but still registered a second positive day in a row. Of course, tomorrow is a little bit more difficult to handicap. Stay tuned.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 72 points to finish the day at 18,332. The S&P 500 was up 8 points to close at 2139. Gold was down $3 to trade at $1,276 per ounce, while oil was down $.03 to trade at $44.86 per barrel WTI. Natural Gas was down $.205 to trade at $2.611.

The markets appear set up for a Clinton presidency and a Republican House and possible Senate- divided government. Let’s count the votes and see what happens. It should be an interesting night.

Have a “nice” evening everyone.
